Our mission is to contribute and assist in the education of sportsmen about wildlife and wetland conservation.

We are the Gulf Coast Watermen

We’re just a group of people who love the outdoors. Some of us are guides, others just weekend warriors…but we all value and cherish the irreplaceable impact that the marshes of the Gulf Coast have had on all of our lives. We want to make sure that that same experience is afforded to our lifetimes, our kids and for generations to come.  With that goal in mind, we’re here to educate others on the beauty this land has to offer and the ongoing and imminent threats to sustaining it.Our tournaments are fun, but they are also a way to raise awareness and funds to help protect this one of a kind habitat.

Notable Watermen

These are some of the guys and gals who are instrumental in making this cause a reality.

  • Louisiana Native Captain

Miles LaRose was born in Metairie, Louisiana, but spent his childhood years in Covington, Louisiana. After earning a degree in Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management from The University of Alabama, he began his career as a Lab Technician in the Greater New Orleans area. However, his passion for the outdoors led him to create Shallow South Guides LLC, where he started guiding part-time before transitioning to a full-time career. With nearly a decade of experience under his belt, Miles took his love for fishing to the next level in 2020 by launching Skiff Supply Flyshop. Miles is dedicated to promoting conservation efforts in the Gulf Coast region and is actively involved in various community projects aimed at preserving our natural resources.

  • Biologist + Guide

Sarah Giles is a native of Mandeville, Louisiana and has been fishing the marshes of south Louisiana since she was 3. She and her father would fish out a tandem kayak, him fly fishing from the back seat and her fishing from the front. After graduating from The University of North Carolina with a degree in Ecology, Sarah moved back to Louisiana to work as a wetland biologist. In addition to guiding fly fishing, Sarah is a biologist at an environmental consulting firm and is a certified Wildland Firefighter with the US Fish and Wildlife Service. She is passionate about Louisiana coastal restoration and fisheries conservation and serves on the Board of Directors for the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana in addition to being the Secretary of Gulf Coast Watermen.

  • Treasurer

Francis Weaver, originally from Mississippi, moved to New Orleans in 2009. A graduate of the University of Mississippi's Accountancy program, he formed his own firm in 2019 after working in public accounting for over a decade. Francis is passionate about preserving outdoor recreation and fishing in South Louisiana and Mississippi and jumped at the opportunity to serve as treasurer for Gulf Coast Watermen. He enjoys all of the outdoor activities the Gulf Coast region has to offer and hopes that his three children will be able to enjoy the same.
